WEATHER FORECASTS

Winster seems to get a mix of 'North-West' and 'East Midlands' weather, which makes radio and TV forecasts less useful.

The National Park's excellent Peak District forecast website ended in March 06, for lack of money to pay the Met Office fees.

The Mountain Weather Information Service offers a 3-day Peak District Forecast (Acrobat format: 2 pages) on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

The BBC offer 5-day forecasts for Bakewell and Matlock (which are sometimes surprisingly different). I have set up a (rather crude) 5-day comparison for these two forecasts.

If you want an idea of how weather will change during the day, there are 3-hourly forecasts available for Sheffield, Manchester and Derby - but nowhere closer. I have set up a 24-hour comparison for these three forecasts.

Metcheck offer detailed forecasts for the DE4 area covering the next 48 hours , the next 7 days and the following week. (They also offer a Barbecue forecast, but you have to enter the postcode in specially to use this so I can't give a direct link - go to their main page and find the right button on the left hand side). I have no idea how accurate they are - comments very welcome.

For a UK-wide picture of weather now, there is a visible-light satellite image - good during daylight but useless at night) and an infrared satellite image available from the Met Office - reasonably quick for Broadband users, but possibly taking rather a while if you are a dialup user.
